JKIFTS Council Board: How important is the role of columnists in transforming the society?
AABID : As it has been said that “pen is mighter than sword”, so this single line clearly depicts the role of a columnist in transforming and revolutionising a society. A versatile writer can revolutionise the society by making his voice vocal and discussing the social issues and their solutions through his pen. History is witness to the fact that writers have always reflected the social problems and brought them to the limelight of concerned authorities.
JKIFTS Council Board: How much successful you have been so far in adressing the social issues as a columnist?
AABID: Success of a columnist is measured by the degree of impact of his write ups. Alhamdulillah for my every write up, I receive mails and phone calls across from the whole country and people always thank me for changing their negative thoughts into positivity. I have students from whole valley whom I guide in writing articles only after they found my articles fruitful. Shabir Khanabali , a mental retarded person in South kashmir was taken for treatment very next day when I wrote an article about him last year and a doctor from srinagar mailed me and appreciated me for bringing the patient into their focus. I think a single change in society by our write up is a big success.JKIFTS Council Board: Wonderful. What do you think should be the core strategy in developing a write-up to make it more impactful?
AABID: For me it is reading and literary taste that makes a person best writer. Before writing anything , we need a thorough research regarding the concerned issue. One more thing is that our write ups should be regarding the field we are dealing with as we can use versatility of terminologies in our write ups when it is related to our field which beautifies our skill and attracts the reader. In the long run it is the reading habit and our research aptitude which makes our write-ups impactful.
JKIFTS Council Board: “Writing with purpose”. Can you decode this sentence and what it means to you?
AABID: ‘Writing with purpose’ should be the final goal of a writer,,, it means our writing should transform and revolutionise the society. Our write ups shouldn’t just fairy tales or imaginary stories without any social relevance or some message, rather they should highlight the social problems and suggest their solutions. Our writing should bring creativity in the minds of people rather than just making them laugh for few minutes. Writing without puropse is like a boat without rudder which may make it to land in no man’s land. So in short, writing with puropse means impactful writing which revolutionises the minds of masses.
