Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, one of the most adored couples of B-town, have completed 29 years of marriage today. Yes, it was on this day in 1991 that SRK and Gauri got hitched in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony after six years of relationship. So technically, the duo has been together for nearly 35 years. If that does not reinstate your faith in love and marriage, nothing will.
On the 29th wedding anniversary of SRK and Gauri, let’s revisit an anecdote from the couple’s wedding reception, which will leave you in splits. In a talk-show chat with actress Farida Jalal, SRK had said, “I remember, when their whole family, old fashioned people, I respect them all and respect their beliefs but at that time, in that old-fashioned reception, all of them were sitting there when I came in at 1:15, whispering ‘Hmmm.. He’s a Muslim boy. Hmm.. Will he change the girl’s name? Will she (Gauri) become a Muslim?’”
It was then SRK decided to play a prank on Gauri’s family. The superstar said in the interview that he asked Gauri to put on a ‘burqa’ and read the namaaz. The whole family started wondering if he had already got Gauri converted. Shah Rukh, continuing the prank, told them, “From now on she will wear a burqaa all the time, she won’t ever leave the house and her name will be changed to Ayesha and she will be like this.”
SRK and Gauri follow their respective religions. The superstar, who has always been vocal about secularism, had once said that he would want his children to love and respect all religions.
Meanwhile, on the work front, SRK was last seen in Zero, which released almost two years back. The Aanand L Rai directorial, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, had turned out to be a damp squib at the box office, finishing its box-office run with collection of about Rs 90 crore. SRK’s upcoming projects, however, show a lot of promise. He is expected to soon begin shooting for Siddharth Anand’s Pathan, an actioner produced by Yash Raj Films. While the film features John Abraham as the antagonist, it will have Deepika Padukone playing the leading lady. An official announcement of the project is awaited. ( Zoom )
