Ahead of UAE’s first ODI against Ireland, on Friday (January 8), two of their players have tested positive for COVID-19.
A statement released by the board read: “Emirates Cricket Board confirm that Chirag Suri, UAE Vice Captain, and Aryan Lakra have returned positive Covid19 tests. Both players are currently in isolation, are being monitored and are in good health. All areas were immediately and thoroughly sanitized as per existing protocols with no further positive tests returned.”
Ireland have already arrived in Abu Dhabi for the four-match ODI series, and there has been no statement as yet on the fate of the series in light of these recent developments. Ireland are also set to play Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi soon after their series against UAE.
