Srinagar CNS, Sept 26: The Usanas Foundation, an Udaipur-based think- tank has petitioned the United Nations over the assassination of noted lawyer and human rights defender Advocate Syed Babar Qadri in Kashmir.
The petition addressed to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres, “Requests an urgent action against Pakistan for brutally murdering civilians in Indian Kashmir for joining mainstream political and peace process, through its proxy terrorist groups in Kashmir.”
“In particular, this letter focused on the murder of Bhopinder Singh, Block Development Council, Chairperson in Budgam and the most recent murder of Srinagar-based lawyer Babur Qadri,” the petition reads.
The Usanas Foundation founder and globally-acclaimed researcher Abhinav Pandhya said the copy of the petition has also been sent to the US President Donald Trump, Human Rights Watch, Freedom House , Amnesty International, European Union and UNHRC.
He said that the recent assassination of Advocate Qadri in particular prompted the Usanas Foundation to petition the global body.
Terming Qadri’s assassination an attack on the edifice of human rights, Pandya said the case needs to be taken to is logical conclusion.
Pandya said that the government needs to understand that after the abrogation of Article 370, the onus on its shoulders has increased. “If they really want to win hearts and minds of people they should provide healing touch, reach out to people with humility and open arms, and sincerely provide security and support to people who want to work for peace, good governance and development. After 370 removal people of Kashmir cooperated with the state and now it’s the state’s turn to make people feel that the state cares for them,” he said.( CNS)
