PDP apprehends more shocks in coming days ‘Party to call meeting of senior leaders’

Srinagar, Dec 6 2018

Amid rebellion within the party, the Peoples Democratic Party is apprehending more “shocks” in the coming days as some of the leaders are allegedly planning to leave the party.

Sources said some of the party leaders from PDP have been in touch with some other parties. Sources said the PDP leaders are being “offered good package” by other parties especially the National Conference and the Peoples Conference.

Sources said PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has been getting inputs from her close aides about the activities of her party cadres being in touch with the “rival parties.”

Sources said some of the trusted leaders have asked Mehbooba Mufti to call a daylong party meeting at her residence in Srinagar so that internal issues if any would be resolved.

“Our basic objective this time is to prevent any of our leaders from leaving the party, so a meeting is likely to be held in the coming days,” said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.

Sources said while the party leadership has credible inputs that in the coming days at least two of the leaders who have been in close contact with Imran Ansari, who recently left PDP to join PC, will be joining the party led by Sajad Lone.

“We cannot do much to stop them because they are from the rebel group but our focus is to prevent others from doing the same,” the PDP leader said.

Sources said Mehbooba would be personally calling her party colleagues for meeting at her residence.

It was reliably learnt that since the day Imran Ansari left PDP and joined PC, Mehbooba Mufti has been getting regular updates about the activities of some senior leaders.

Just recently she personally visited Muzaffar Baig and held a detailed meeting with him and his wife Safina Baig for around two hours at their residence in Nishat.

Sources said Mehbooba told Baig that he and his wife would be given “good position” in the next Assembly elections.

“Our focus is to retain the old guards and that we’ll be doing to achieve through all possible means,” said a PDP leader.
