Valley Citizen Council General Secretary Imdad Saqi today on the occasion of World Environment Day said that with the rapid arbitrary urbanisation in Kashmir division the natural ecology has been immensely tampered with.
Issuing a statement here, Imdad Saqi said that Kashmir had a serene and pure environment because of its lush green forest covers and crystal clean water bodies, that lamentably have been sacrificed for adapting a technically advance societal outlook.
“The forest covers are dwindling with every passing day and there is no check on it. The government has always had a lackdaiscal approach towards protecting our environment otherwise timber smugglers would have been booked under stringent laws,” he said.
Imdad Saqi also pointed out the impervious attitude of LAWDA due to which Dal Lake, Wular Lake and their tributaries are witnessing a silent death.
“The area of Dal Lake is contracting with the every passing day so is the case with Asia’s fresh water lake. We as citizen’s urge the administration to take strong actions for saving our fresh water bodies and the VCC members will voluntarily act as collaborators for any project that the administration formulates for the conservation of our forests,” he demanded.
