Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said on Twitter that he has tested positive for coronavirus. He became the first chief minister in India to test positive for Covid-19.
In a series of tweets, Chouhan said he was experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, following which he got tested. His test results have come positive.
“My dear countrymen, I was having Covid-19 symptoms and after the test, my report came back positive. I appeal to all my colleagues that whoever has come in contact with me, get their corona test done. My close contacts move to quarantine,” he said on Twitter.
“I am following all Covid guidelines and have quarantined myself as per the advice of the doctors…I will be participating in the daily COVID19 review meeting via video conferencing,” he added.
“I made every effort to avoid Corona but people used to meet on many subjects.”
Chouhan went on to say that a person can be completely cured if treated on time. “I have been reviewing the status of corona infection every evening since 25 March. I will try to review Corona with video conferencing as much as possible now,” he said.
He further added that in his absence, the daily meetings on the state’s coronavirus preparations and measures will be conducted by Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra, Minister of Urban Development and Administration Bhuppendra Siingh, Health Education minister Vishvas Sarang and state health minister Dr Prabhuram Choudhary.
On Wednesday, State Cooperatives Minister Arvind Singh Bhadoria had tested positive for Covid-19. Bhadoria along with state BJP President VD Sharma and CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had flown together to Lucknow on July 21 to attend the funeral of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon.
After returning, Bhadoria got himself tested and was found void positive. State BJP President VD Sharma also had himself tested and was found negative. Sources said that on Friday evening onwards, CM Chouhan began showing symptoms in the form of a cough. He was tested and found positive.
Chouhan had been holding regular meetings on corona management every day. Those who attend the meeting every day are the health department officers, ministers in charge of health, medical education, home and chief secretary and DGP. It may be noted that Chouhan shares his official residence with his wife Sadhna, and sons Kartikeya and Kunal.
At present, Madhya Pradesh has over 7,500 active coronavirus cases while 17,866 people have recovered after testing positive. The state’s death toll stands at 791. ( India Today )
