The government on Friday initiated an inquiry into the use of force on a shopkeeper by forces yesterday in Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A spokesperson said the District Magistrate Bandipora, Khursheed Ahmad Sanai appointed Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sumbal, Syed Naseer Ahmad as Inquiry Officer to examine the circumstances which led to the injury of Abdul Rashid Wani s/o Ali Mohammed Wani resident of Sumbal, Inderkoot in a protest incident at Sumbal on May10, 2018.
“The Inquiry Officer shall submit his report to the District Magistrate, Bandipora within a period of 15 days,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said, Rashid has been provided financial assistance from Red Cross.
Earlier, the Bazaar Committee, Sumbal held a protest against the use of force on shopkeepers and vendors by forces and were demanding an enquiry of the incident.
On Thursday, forces fired pellets on a shopkeeper Abdul Rasheed Wani (50) of Sumbal which resulted in severe damage to his eye, besides injuries in the face.
