Gurpurab Was celebrated across Kashmir valley with religious fervor today.The main function WAS held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi at Rainawari.
Special arrangements were put in place by the Sikh community at the Gurdwaras where Sikhs both men as well women thronged since the wee hours and participated in special prayers today.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has extended warm greetings to the people of J&K on the auspicious occasion of PrakashParv of Guru Nanak Devji.
In his message, the LG said, “Guruji’s life and his message of love, compassion, equality, peace, and brotherhood continue to guide humanity to this day. As a tribute, we must resolve to follow the path laid down by him to strengthen the bond of amity, integrity, and mutual goodwill among people.”
National Conference President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah also greeted people on the auspicious occasion of the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj.
Greeting people especially the Sikh brethren on the auspicious eve, Dr Farooq said, Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj stood against the scourge of caste division, and religious discrimination. He voiced for the oppressed and underprivileged. I greet people especially our Sikh Brethren on the observance of the birthday of the revered Guru Ji Maharaj . May this day increase the prospects of peace and brotherhood in J&K and elsewhere in the country,”he said.
In his greetings on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday, Omar Abdullah said, “His universal teachings for an honest truthful and virtuous life continue to guide humanity. His message inspires us to embrace equality and compassion,” he added.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, also extended greetings with the hope that the holy occasion would bring peace, progress and prosperity and further bolster secular traditions and brotherhood, which have been unique features of J&K’s glorious past.
In her message, Mehbooba Mufti observed that Guru Nanak Dev Ji was an apostle of peace, compassion and love. “The teachings of great Guru will continue to inspire future generations. Let us take a pledge to embrace the path of service to mankind and work towards laying edifice of a just and equitable society,” she added.
Director General of Police Dilbag Singh Thursday greeted the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Police and security forces, and their families besides the families of slain policemen on the occasion of the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev
Sikh Coordination committee Chandrigam President, Sanjeet singh also greeted the people of J&K on the occasion of Gurupurab. In his message, Singh said he hopes the occasion would bring peace and prosperity to the people.
“Guru Nanak Devji’s contribution in making spiritual truths easily understandable for common man shall be remembered for times immemorial. He rejected rituals and superstitions and kindled devotion to the creator of this world,” singh said.
All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) extended greetings to people on the occasion of 552st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji.
APSCC leaders, Prinicpal Naranjan Singh, Ajeet Singh Mastana, Sant singh, Dr. Jaipal Singh Bali, Davinder Singh, Gurdayal Singh and others wished and prayed this festive occassion of Gurpuruab brings about peace & happiness in the world.
Extending his greetings, Raina said Guru Nanak Devji was not only the first Guru of the Sikhs but also a guru to the entire world.
Meanwhile, Celebrations would also be held in other local Gurdwaras including in Jawahar Nagar, Allochibagh, Barzulla, Tral, Rangreth and Pattan.
“Festival celebrates the life and teachings Guru Nanak Dev and teaches to adopt the principles of truthfulness, righteousness, compassion and service to mankind.,” said Mandeep Singh, a devotee.
“The festival will go a long way in maintaining peace and tranquility; we prayed for the betterment of humanity across the world and asked for the Guru Ji’s blessings in order make the humanity to strive for worldly good by helping each other,” another devotee said.
