The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday condemned former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks on the Tricolour and termed it ‘intolerable’ and ‘unacceptable’.
Reacting to her statement, JKPCC cheif spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said, “Mehbooba’s remarks were highly provocative and irresponsible and has hurt sentiments of people”.
He said the tricolor is the symbol of “honour for the country and reminds of the sacrifices of crores of Indians to achieve freedom and to protect the dignity, honour, and the territorial integrity of the country”.
Sharma said such statements will defeat the democratic and constitutional struggle for achieving any just right. “She should desist from such outrageous utterances, the JKPCC spokesperson said.
Notably PDP cheif Mehbooba Mufti in her first presser since August 5, 2019 condemned the abrogation of Article 370 and had said till state flag and Article 370 are not returned back, the tricolor will not be raised in J&K.
Last week when signatories of Gupkar Declaration met after PDP chief was released from 14-months long detention, Congress cheif of UT Ghulam Ahmad Mir skipped the meeting, cited ‘health grounds’ as a reason. However he toured several parts of Jammu region on the following day.
