Bangladesh added a few quick runs in the opening session of day 3 before declaring at 541 for 7 on Friday (April 23).
The day started with a 12-run over as Liton Das made his intentions clear from the word go. At the other end, Rahim also didn’t break too much of a sweat and brought up his fifty. Liton also brought his half-ton but the happiness was short-lived as he fell for exactly 50 off the bowling of Vishwa Fernando.
Liton and Rahim scored 87 for the fifth wicket to ensure Bangladesh continued to dominate. Mehidy Hasan walked in and didn’t trouble the scorers much before Taijul Islam became Fernando’s fourth victim.
Sri Lanka came out to bat for a little period and saw off the phase without much issues. The openers – Lahiru Thrimanne and Dimuth Karunaratne – went unscathed at lunch on day three despite Bangladesh ringing in quick bowling changes.
Brief Scores: Bangladesh 541/7 dec (Najmul Hossain Shanto 163, Mominul Haque 127; Vishwa Fernando 4/96) lead Sri Lanka 11/0 by 523 runs.
