Security forces have killed 89 militants, including seven Pakistani nationals, in Jammu and Kashmir so far this year, top officials of the army and police said on Saturday, adding that over 200 militants are still active in the union territory.
Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Vijay Kumar said, “Of these 89 militants, seven were FTs (foreign militants or Pakistanis). This (number) is less than last year, but this year more top commanders were killed. ” Said.
He was addressing a joint press conference with Army’s 15 Corps GOC Lt Gen DP Pandey and South Kashmir-based Victor Force GOC Major General Rashim Bali.
Responding to a question about the number of militants present in Jammu and Kashmir, Lt Gen Pandey said around 200-225 militants are active in the entire Union Territory.
However, he said that there has been no successful infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) this year so far.
“There has been information about one or two infiltration. We have launched the operation, which is to stop or neutralize them (infiltrators). But, as per ground inputs, there was no successful infiltration or infiltration in 15 core zone Valley till now,” said LT Gen Pandey.
