Tarigami recalls contribution of Sheikh Abdullah on his 113th birth anniversary

Paying tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 113th birth anniversary, CPI (M) senior leader, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday called Sher-e-Kashmir a towering personality.
Tarigami said, Sheikh Abdullah was a towering leader who led the freedom movement against the autocratic rule, titled ‘Quit Kashmir’. “The movement was led by Sheikh Abdullah in which many sacrificed their lives,” he said.

“In the result of this particular movement, a new era has taken place and several historic changes were made including constituent assembly was formed, separate constitution for Jammu and Kashmir was made, revolutionary progressive decisions were taking including abolition of landlordism, feudalism and land to the tiller without compensation,” he added.

He added that the movement Sheikh Abdullah led to new perspective in the form of a document called ‘Naya Kashmir’ in which freedom of people, democratization of governance, decentralization of power, universalization of free education, equal rights to the women and other measures took place.

“In the long journey of Sheikh Abdullah’s political career, there can be different opinions on some issues,” he said, adding that the Sheikh Abdullah’s contribution remains historic.
