Protests erupt in PoK as Islamabad continues to wage water war in region

Muzaffarabad (PoK), Sep 25 : Massive demonstrations were carried out in the Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan occupied Kashmir against the establishment’s complicity in destroying the natural habitat, wildlife and essentially the life and livelihood of the common people of the region. Islamabad, which has been misruling the region for more than seven decades, is now depriving the people of Muzaffarabad of their water lifeline – Neelum River – through an elaborate scheme which has changed the flow of the fresh water from the mountains to Punjab province. The course of Neelum River has been diverted to Punjab province to utilise it for Neelum-Jhelum power project. It has caused acute water shortage in the region. United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) leader Jamil Maqsood said that people are facing water crisis which is why they are demonstrating against Neelum-Jhelum power project. A massive water crisis has built up of late, which has forced the people to either live in uninhabitable conditions or move to other places. (ANI)
