Scores of students of Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora on Monday held a protest against the detention of their mate.
Sources said a student, identified as Junaid Akhoon, pursuing diploma in Polytechnic college of the IUST was arrested by police from his house at Aarampora village in Awantipora.
Scores of students assembled outside the Academic Block of the varsity and staged the protest.
“We protest against the high-handedness of forces. The forces are harassing innocent students without any reason,” said the protesting students.
Officials at the IUST informed that they have taken up the issue with the authorities.
A senior police official told Greater Kashmir that Akhoon was detained for questioning about his brother Salia Mohammad Akhoon, an active militant who was involved in recent bank robbery incident at Marhama Bijbehara.
