Jammu and Kashmir: Militant killed during ongoing gunfight in Kupwara

The death toll in the ongoing gunfight in Kandi forest of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to mounted to two with the death of a militant late last evening, reports said.

An army commando was killed and another injured in the gunfight yesterday.

“The body of the slain militant was recovered today morning along with an AK- 47 rifle and other ammunition during the search operation in dense woods of Sadu Ganga in Kandi,” news agency quoted an army officer as having said.

The identity of the slain militant and his group affiliation is being ascertained, he said, adding that the operation is still going on.

On Tuesday, an army commando of 3 PARA namely Sepoy Mukul Meena was killed while another soldier suffered injuries.

The operation, according to the official, was launched following a stand-off with the militants Tuesday afternoon.

He said that the militant group had managed to flee from the area, but the contact was established again on Wednesday.
