Srinagar, Nov 10 2018

Two militants were killed in a brief gun-battle with government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said today.

In the wee hours today, special operations group (SOG) of police, army’s 55 RR and paramilitary CRPF laid a siege around Tikken village of Pulwama and started a cordon and search operation on the basis of inputs suggesting presence of militants in the village, a police spokesman said.

When the joint team started advances, militants hiding in the village opened fire upon them in a bid to escape from their dragnet.

“The fire was returned leading to an encounter. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, two militants were killed,” the police spokesman said.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended Internet services in Pulwama district.
